Ukraine Among Key Participants in EU Transport Renewal
As part of this project, Ukrzaliznytsia will receive €76 million for the implementation of a large-scale modernization that will ensure the continuous movement of trains on European gauge tracks to Lviv. This decision will facilitate the integration of Ukrainian railway infrastructure with the transport system of the European Union, ease cross-border movement, and improve the region’s logistics capabilities.
International Transport Connections Gaining New Momentum
In addition to the Ukrainian project, the EU will finance several other important initiatives aimed at strengthening transport links between Ukraine and Europe. In particular, this includes the modernization of the 143-kilometer railway line Ploiești – Focșani in Romania (€45 million), the upgrade of a 10-kilometer section of Vidrnik – Spišská Nová Ves (€97.3 million), and preparations for the connection of Košice – Čierna nad Tisou in Slovakia (€32.2 million).
The projects will strengthen the Solidarity Routes between the EU and our country and will facilitate Ukraine’s transition to European standard gauge, easing cross-border rail movement and enhancing regional trade.
Overall, 77% of the total funding will be directed specifically towards the development of rail transport. The completion of grant agreements is planned by October 2025.
