A Record of Tropical Plants Established in Lviv Region

In the village of Solonka, near Lviv, a national record of Ukraine titled “The Largest Collection of Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Plants in Ukraine” was officially set on April 5. The record was documented thanks to Tetiana Zahorodnyk, who has grown over 800 varieties of exotic plants.

To confirm this unusual record, Lana Vietrova, the head of the National Register of Records of Ukraine, arrived in Lviv. Together with Tetiana, they thoroughly inspected the greenhouse, documenting each plant as a unique specimen, in accordance with the record’s conditions.
“There is a very interesting aspect to this record. When we register such records, we always categorize them under ‘Living Nature.’ However, this time it falls under ‘Science and Technology’ – the most prestigious category,” emphasized Lana Vietrova.
A total of 844 individual varieties of exotic plants were counted, indicating significant technological work in their cultivation. Tetiana Zahorodnyk shared that the idea to apply for the record arose spontaneously, but in reality, she had been preparing for this for eight years, since she began pursuing her hobby.
Currently, the greenhouse houses over 2,000 plants, most of which have come from Europe and America. Tetiana mentions that among the varieties are plants from countries such as Italy, Germany, Spain, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan.
She also notes that all innovations in plant cultivation technology are aimed at creating maximum comfort for each species, as all plants have their specific requirements for growing conditions. “Each pot – like a person – has its own character and unique features,” explains Tetiana, showcasing different types of fruits.
Among the varieties presented are special seedless oranges, a lemon with a delicate pink center, and a hybrid between a lemon and an orange. Additionally, the collection includes various types of papayas, mangoes, tall bananas, and avocados.
