Regular Monitoring and Reliable Protection

This winter, which has been unusually cold compared to previous years, has somewhat adjusted the population of certain agricultural pests. However, this does not mean that farmers can afford to relax their control over this issue, emphasize specialists from Ukravit. With the onset of consistently favorable air temperatures, pests can cause significant damage to crops, and thus the situation requires constant monitoring and timely response.

The increase in average daily temperatures serves as a signal for pests that they can begin to infest crops en masse, and for farmers – that it’s time to start insecticidal protection, – notes Irina Usova, product manager for the ‘Insecticides’ division at Ukravit. – Even now, in the crops of winter and spring cereal grains, there is a gradual infestation and damage to plants by cereal leaf beetles, cereal flies, aphids, leafhoppers, and bugs. In the fields of winter rapeseed across Ukraine, there is an early and massive infestation by the rapeseed weevil, which has already exceeded the economic threshold level; the infestation by hidden weevils is more localized. Additionally, cruciferous flea beetles and the hairy weevil are being observed in some areas. Under favorable conditions, their numbers and the intensity of damage to agricultural crops will increase. The indirect threat from these “unwanted guests” is the vulnerability of plants at the sites of damage to a range of diseases, which together can lead to significant losses in future yields. Therefore, the key task for agronomists during this period is regular and thorough monitoring of crop conditions and timely application of appropriate insecticides.”

Against common pests of spring and winter cereal crops, rapeseed, and legumes, Irina recommends choosing a comprehensive contact-systemic insecticide HimArs (thiamethoxam, 250 g/l + lambda-cyhalothrin, 80 g/l + alpha-cypermethrin, 15 g/l). Thiamethoxam is quickly absorbed and moves through the vascular system of plants, and upon receiving a lethal dose, it blocks nicotinic receptors in the postsynaptic membrane of the synapse, resulting in the cessation of nerve impulse transmission and the pest’s mobility, preventing it from continuing to feed. Meanwhile, lambda-cyhalothrin and alpha-cypermethrin disrupt the permeability of cell membranes and act as sodium channel inhibitors, leading to excessive release of acetylcholine during the passage of nerve impulses through the synaptic chain, causing pests to die from severe nerve overstimulation.

On rapeseed, HimArs reliably controls stem and cabbage hidden weevils, cruciferous flea beetles, rapeseed weevils, and bugs. On cereals – the harmful tortoise bug, aphids, thrips, leafhoppers, slugs, cereal flies, and more. The insecticide is also an excellent solution against dangerous pests of sunflower, soybean, corn, peas, and fruit crops.

The comprehensive action of HimArs ensures immediate pest death and prolonged protection of crops, allowing the fields and plantations to develop fully.
