Main Centrenergo Thermal Power Plants Damaged
Centrenergo includes two strategic thermal power plants – Zmiivska and Tripilska. These facilities were the most affected during the recent shelling, which led to the suspension of their activities. Ukraine’s Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk confirmed during a conversation with journalists that restoration work has already begun, and currently, the company’s specialists are carrying out repair activities at the sites.
“Indeed, there were damages. Colleagues have already started the restoration and repairs. We will not disclose the successes we plan, but the restoration work is underway.”
Restoration Sequence and Damage Assessment
Svitlana Hrynchuk explained that during military operations, Ukraine’s energy system regularly faces the need to stop certain facilities. Sometimes such measures are taken deliberately to avoid greater destruction. After clearing the debris, experts can analyze the level of damage, assess the technical condition of the equipment, and determine which components require complete or partial replacement.
The Minister added that the thermal power plants of “Centrenergo” have already been halted multiple times since the beginning of the full-scale war, after which restoration and repair work was carried out. This situation has occurred several times, underscoring the importance of ongoing support and restoration of the country’s energy infrastructure.
