The Russian Federation is implementing new security measures on railway lines that pass through occupied territories. In particular, a specially equipped train with an enhanced protection system has been formed at the depot in Melitopol, with the participation of representatives from the Russian Ministry of Transport.

Features of the Protected Train

The train, which will be used on the Volnovakha – Melitopol route, is equipped with a separate section containing equipment to counter unmanned aerial vehicles. Additionally, significant attention has been paid to the safety of personnel and fuel resources: the driver’s cabins and fuel tanks have been reinforced, and the undercarriage of the locomotive is covered with metal sheets to enhance protection against potential attacks.

Limitations of the Innovations

Despite the strengthening of protective measures, experts note that such modernization does not provide complete protection for the train. According to the head of the Center for Occupation Studies, Petro Andryushchenko, the Russian side has not carried out the necessary upgrades to the tank cars and wagons, leaving the train vulnerable to strikes.

“In Melitopol, a specially prepared train with an enhanced protection system was assembled at the depot with the participation of the Russian Ministry of Transport,” said center head Petro Andryushchenko.

Thus, despite the implementation of new protective technologies, railway connections in temporarily occupied territories remain at risk of being hit.
