State of Ukraine’s Energy System: Increase in Electricity Consumption and Recommendations for the Public

Reasons for the Increase in Electricity Consumption
Energy experts explain the rise in consumption by several factors. Firstly, at the beginning of the week, there is traditionally an increase in demand for electricity. Secondly, cloudy weather in several regions of the country has led to a decrease in the efficiency of household solar power plants, resulting in consumers contributing less electricity to the overall system.
The day before, a daily peak in electricity consumption was recorded in the evening, which was 3.5% higher than the corresponding figure from the previous Sunday, June 1. This increase in energy consumption is attributed to hot weather and widespread use of air conditioners among citizens.
Recommendations for Consumers and the Situation in the Energy System
Given the current situation and the ongoing recovery of the energy system after massive missile and drone attacks from the Russian Federation, energy experts urge citizens to use electricity rationally. It is especially important to shift the use of high-power electrical appliances to daytime hours – from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, when the load on the system is less critical.
“We remind you that the Ukrainian energy system is still recovering from the Russian massive missile and drone attacks. Emergency recovery work at energy facilities is ongoing. Today, it is advisable to shift active energy consumption to daytime hours. Please use high-power electrical appliances from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM,” stated “Ukrenergo”.
Ukrainians are also advised to closely monitor updates and announcements on the official resources of their distribution system operators (oblenergo), as the situation in the energy sector may change rapidly.
