Supplies of Equipment for Repairing Ukraine’s Energy System May Run Out After New Attacks
The threat of a shortage of equipment for repairing the energy infrastructure in Ukraine is increasing due to constant massive attacks by the Russian Federation on the energy system. According to experts, current reserves may be depleted in the near future, significantly complicating the restoration of damages after new shelling.

Risks to Energy Stability
Alexander Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center, emphasized that the volumes of reserve autotransformers and other key equipment are rapidly decreasing. He noted that if the Russian Federation carries out two or three more massive attacks, there will be virtually no reserves left for repairing damages. The situation is particularly critical regarding reserves for distribution networks, which are already practically exhausted.
Lack of Resources for Purchasing New Equipment
According to Kharchenko, energy companies are facing a shortage of financial and material resources to purchase the equipment necessary to support the energy system both now and in the coming months. He stressed that “Ukrenergo” still has some capabilities for restoration, but the situation in most generating and distribution companies is close to critical.
“I do not see any resources now in ‘Ukrenergo’, nor in generating or distribution companies, especially to purchase the equipment they already need and will need in two or three months. In ‘Ukrenergo’, in particular, they are still operational and have something left, but in all others, as far as I understand, the situation is close to such that after two or three attacks, they will simply look at the damages and not understand how to restore them.”
Experts warn that in the event of further strikes on the energy infrastructure, the country may face an inability to promptly restore the system due to a shortage of equipment.
