Level of Awareness and Support
According to the survey data, 86% of Ukrainians stated that they have some level of awareness regarding the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Of these, 25% of respondents noted that they are well or very well informed about the topic, while another 61% reported having basic or moderate awareness.
Support for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union stands at 74%. The highest figures were recorded among residents of Kyiv (82%), as well as in the western (80%), northern (78%), and central (76%) regions. In the South and East of the country, support for eurointegration is slightly lower — 69% and 64% respectively.
“The survey showed that Ukrainians take a fairly thorough and critical approach to the eurointegration processes. It is important that, when considering the advantages and disadvantages of joining the EU, citizens focus not only on issues that concern them personally, such as employment opportunities or education and healthcare, but also on broader areas of state life — combating corruption, security issues, and economic growth. Therefore, it is particularly encouraging that after such an assessment, people still support joining the European Union. They remain very optimistic about this issue, believing that we will be able to join the European family within the next 5 years — and this expectation is shared not only by the youth but also by significantly older individuals,” commented Andriy Borovyk, Executive Director of TI Ukraine, on the survey results.
Skepticism and Uncertainty
The survey also demonstrated that 6% of citizens currently oppose Ukraine’s EU membership. Another 18% of respondents have yet to determine their position on this issue.
