The Number of IT Specialists in Ukraine Decreased by 20,000 Over Three Years of War

Over three years of war in Ukraine, the total number of employees in the fifty largest IT companies has decreased by 20,000. This has resulted from the mass exodus of specialists abroad. The teams of N-IX and Grid Dynamics Group were hit hardest, with a reduction of 50%, while EPAM saw a decrease of 31%.

It has been noted that the largest outflow of IT specialists occurred during the second year of full-scale war, when 10,700 people left the country, compared to 7,000 in the first year. This period was also characterized by a peak in the legalization of Ukrainian specialists abroad. In the third year of the war, the outflow of specialists significantly decreased, totaling only 2,400 people.
Reasons for the Relocation of IT Specialists
The main reason for the departure of specialists from Ukrainian teams was relocation abroad. Over the past three years, many companies have actively opened offices outside of Ukraine, particularly in Poland, where more than half of the top 50 Ukrainian IT companies have established a presence. More than 30 offices of leading Ukrainian IT market players have been opened in Poland.
Popular Relocation Destinations
The next most popular countries for relocation were Bulgaria (12 offices), Latin American countries (12), Romania (11), Portugal (8), and India (7).
