Trends in the consumption of Slovak electricity over the years

According to official data, in 2025, the share of electricity from Slovakia in the Ukrainian energy system was 0.6%, while in 2024 it was 1%. The highest figure was recorded in January 2026, which is associated with the critical state of the Ukrainian energy sector due to massive strikes from the Russian Federation.

Slovak-Ukrainian energy relations: changes in contracts

On March 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to information about Slovakia’s intention to terminate the contract for the supply of emergency electricity. The Ukrainian agency emphasized that if such a decision is made by Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government, Slovak companies will lose their earning opportunities, while Ukraine will be able to obtain the necessary volumes of electricity from other sources.

The government of Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia “will simply deprive Slovak companies of earnings, while Ukraine will obtain this electricity from other sources.”

On the same day, the state energy company of Slovakia, SEPS, announced its intention to terminate the contract with the Ukrainian operator “Ukrenergo” regarding emergency electricity supplies. This decision has already been approved by the government of Slovakia.
