The Verkhovna Rada Proposes to Restore the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine

The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on Transport and Infrastructure has approved the initiative to separate the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine. It is proposed to create a separate central executive body that will oversee transport and infrastructure issues.

Arguments for Creating a Separate Ministry

The committee emphasized that the transport sector is key to meeting the needs of the population and production in transportation. Most European countries have separate ministries responsible for transport and infrastructure, which allows for more effective organization of the industry.

“Transport is one of the most important sectors and is meant to meet the needs of the population and social production in transportation. Therefore, in the governments of most countries in Europe and the world, there are separate ministries responsible for transport and infrastructure,” the statement said.

The Importance of Transport Infrastructure During War

Committee members highlighted that with the onset of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, transport infrastructure has become critically important for ensuring logistics. In particular, this pertains to the transportation of humanitarian and military cargo, food, and various goods. The effective operation of the transport system is crucial for the functioning of border crossing points with European Union countries, the development of rail transport, and the activities of seaports.

After the discussion, the committee supported the initiative to separate the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development. It was decided to appeal to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko with a proposal to consider the issue of restoring the Ministry of Transport at a government meeting.
