Ukraine has officially announced the start of exporting its own weapons and modern military technologies. President Volodymyr Zelensky recently emphasized that this initiative is already being implemented in practice. The key goal is to attract additional resources for the procurement and production of the most critically needed weapons for the Ukrainian defense forces, primarily air defense systems and ammunition.

What Types of Weapons Is Ukraine Ready to Export

Ukraine has a surplus of various types of military products, allowing it to form a surplus portfolio for export. Among the main items are naval drones, electronic warfare and reconnaissance systems (EW/ISR), ground robotic complexes, acoustic sensors, and unmanned aerial vehicles of various types, especially FPV drones. Also among the most likely initial export directions are anti-tank missile systems and naval drones.

The final list of products, as well as the timelines for their delivery abroad, will be determined by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, taking into account the current needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This approach allows the army to retain critically important systems while converting surpluses into financial resources for further strengthening defense capabilities.

Potential and Economic Impact of Exports

In the defense industry, Ukraine emphasizes a high level of readiness for export. According to the Ukrainian Arms Manufacturers Association, over 94% of domestic weapon manufacturers already have the capability to supply their products to foreign markets. Many enterprises are capable of producing significantly more equipment and weapons than needed for domestic consumption, which previously created a problem of underloading due to a lack of long-term government contracts.

“The Ukrainian Arms Manufacturers Association reported that 94.4% of weapon manufacturers are ready to open exports of their products. They can produce more weapons than the state can finance.”

Experts from the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine (NAUDI) predict that the export of cutting-edge military products could bring Ukraine up to 2 billion dollars in additional tax revenues over the next year and a half. Thus, controlled exports will not only support the domestic military-industrial complex but also significantly strengthen the financial stability of the state amid the ongoing war.
