In April 2025, the volume of exports through the Ukrainian maritime corridor fell by 45% compared to the same period last year, reaching 5.3 million tons. At the same time, the total cargo turnover of the country’s seaports last month amounted to 6 million tons.

Overview of Cargo Turnover at Major Ukrainian Ports

The majority of processed cargo was handled by large seaports: the port of “Pivdenny” transshipped 2.4 million tons, “Chornomorsk” — 1.8 million tons, and the port of Odesa — 1 million tons. The ports of the Danube region, including Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk, collectively processed about 800 thousand tons of cargo.

Main Types of Cargo and Factors Behind Export Decline

Grains dominated the cargo structure, accounting for 3.1 million tons, followed by ore, which totaled 1 million tons. Of all the exports transported through the maritime corridor in April, the largest share was agricultural products — 2.9 million tons.

Despite the decrease in transshipment volumes, Ukraine’s seaports continue to operate steadily even under conditions of heightened danger.

“At the same time, the decrease in transshipment is related to the reduction of sown areas due to the full-scale war, mining, and the temporary occupation of parts of Ukraine’s territory, as well as the decline in industry, particularly in metallurgy.”
