The head of the armored vehicle manufacturing company “UkrArmoTech,” Hennadiy Khirhiy, stated that the domestic defense industry (DIP) urgently needs the easing of export restrictions. According to him, this is necessary to attract investments, restore vital sectors of the economy, and create new jobs.

Production Potential and Export Prospects

Khirhiy noted that last year, production volumes in the Ukrainian defense sector reached $10 billion. However, in his estimates, the country has the potential to increase this figure to $20 billion, and by the end of 2025, to $35 billion. At the same time, he emphasizes that there are currently grounds to expect significant progress in realizing the export potential of the DIP.

“Instead of a complete opening, there will be a liberalization with the possibility of approving individual export contracts,” he suggested.

The Importance of Exports for Industry Development

The top manager stressed that arms exports not only provide foreign currency inflow for the country but also allow for financing the procurement of necessary components, modern technologies, and raw materials, as well as contribute to funding the defense needs of the state. The existence of long-term export agreements opens up opportunities for Ukrainian enterprises to strategically plan their activities for years to come.

It is worth noting that recently, the upper house of the Swiss parliament supported a proposal to ease strict controls on the export of military products, including the possibility of exporting to conflict zones. However, for this initiative to be finally adopted, approval from the lower house of parliament is required.
