Ukrposhta Abandons Chicken Legs to Protect Mail Carriers

The company’s CEO, Ihor Smilianskyi, explained that the idea was to distract aggressive dogs during mail delivery. The essence of the method was simple: if a dog ran at the mail carrier, he or she could quickly throw a chicken leg, which would distract the dog and allow them to avoid a bite. This approach was considered environmentally friendly and humane, as it did not harm either animals or people.
“I even joked with the McDonald’s manager, saying: you make chicken burgers, but where did the legs go? We have all the legs!” – Smilianskyi shared.
Despite the absurdity of the situation, it reflects the real problems faced by postal workers, particularly in rural areas where aggressive dogs can pose a threat.
Smilianskyi noted that the company has abandoned the use of chicken legs, as new safety technologies have emerged. He emphasized that instead, electronic devices, whistles, sprays, and other technical solutions that do not require the use of animal products are now being used. The director of “Ukrposhta” also hinted that perhaps some suppliers might have had their own chicken farms, which sparked additional interest in this practice.
