Volunteers are being mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine regardless of participation in air defense groups

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has issued a new directive stating that all volunteers who are part of territorial community volunteer formations (TCVF) are subject to mandatory mobilization if they meet age and health criteria, and do not have official deferments or exemptions.

Participation in air defense groups does not provide a deferment from mobilization

It is known that the Ministry of Defense is currently conducting an experiment involving the engagement of volunteers in mobile air defense groups (ADG) designed to protect against kamikaze drones and other aerial threats. However, as stated in the General Staff’s directive, even if a volunteer participates in mobile fire groups (MFG) or has undergone special training as a gunner or machine gunner, this circumstance is not taken into account during the call-up.

“At the same time, the participation of volunteers in mobile fire groups (MFG), which are essentially the air defense groups planned to be created during the experiment, is not considered, nor is the special training undergone by gunners or machine gunners,” the publication states.

Extension of the mobilization period and service inspection

Initially, the mobilization of volunteers was planned to be completed by May 30, but in reality, only a small number of individuals were called up. As a result, the General Staff has initiated a service investigation regarding the “poor execution” of the directive. The mobilization period for volunteers has now been extended to meet the established requirements.

Mobile fire groups of TCVF, as well as similar units of the Armed Forces and the National Guard, remain an important component of the air defense system that protects Ukraine’s territory from attacks by Shahed-type drones and other aerial threats.
