When a Military Personnel in Ukraine Is Not Entitled to a Military Pension

In Ukraine, military personnel can receive a pension based on years of service, in the case of disability, or due to the loss of a breadwinner. However, current legislation outlines several cases in which the right to these payments may be lost.

Categories of Military Pensions

According to the official guide on pension provision for individuals discharged from military service and their family members, there are the following types of military pensions:

• Pension for Length of Service — the amount of payments ranges from 50 to 70% of the monetary allowance, depending on the length of service.
• Disability Pension — can reach 40–100% of the monetary allowance, taking into account the disability group and the cause of its occurrence.
• Pension Due to Loss of Breadwinner — for family members, the payment constitutes 30–70% of the monetary allowance, with the amount depending on the circumstances of the military’s death.

Who Is Not Entitled to a Military Pension

There are clearly defined cases when a military personnel loses the right to a pension:

• Individuals who have been stripped of their military rank.
• Military personnel discharged due to conviction for a deliberate crime using their official position, as well as those held administratively liable for corrupt actions.

“To avoid being without pension payments, military personnel should carefully monitor compliance with service conditions and legal norms – in some cases, even a single violation can lead to serious financial consequences.”

In light of this, military personnel are advised to strictly adhere to the requirements of legislation and their service duties, as even minor violations can have significant consequences for future pension provision.
