Who is eligible for the allowance for excess work experience
The required length of service depends on the retirement date. If a person retired before October 2011, work experience exceeding 25 years for men and 20 years for women is considered excess. For those who retired after October 2011, this threshold has been raised: over 35 years for men and over 30 years for women.
Amount of the allowance and calculation procedure
For each full year of service beyond the established minimum standard, an allowance of 1% of the basic pension is granted, but not more than 1% of the minimum subsistence level for retirees. In 2025, this amounts to 23.61 hryvnias for each additional year. For example, if a retiree has 10 years of excess work experience, the monthly allowance will be 236.10 hryvnias.
It is worth noting that the number of years for which the allowance can be granted is not limited. The calculation is made only for full years of excess work experience.
“For each full additional year – 1% of the basic pension, but not more than 1% of the minimum subsistence level. In 2025, this is 23.61 hryvnias per year. For example, if you have 10 years ‘over the norm’ – the allowance will be 236.10 hryvnias per month”.
Features of recalculation when continuing to work
If a retiree continues to work after retirement, the allowance is calculated based on the minimum subsistence level that was in effect at the time of retirement. However, after dismissal, it is possible to recalculate this allowance based on the new current minimum subsistence indicators. This allows retirees to receive a more equitable allowance in accordance with changes in legislation and the economic situation.
