Which Specialties Are Not Recommended for Applicants in 2025

Among Ukrainian school students and their parents, there are common mistakes when choosing a future profession. Often, decisions are made not based on personal interest, but rather on the popularity of the specialty, high salary levels, or pressure from family.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vinnytskyi recently emphasized in an interview that most 17-year-old applicants have not yet determined their preferences and future paths. This leads to a mass enrollment in popular specialties, despite low chances of employment after graduation.

Which Professions Have Limited Prospects

— Enrolling in law, management, or finance is probably not the most thoughtful decision, considering the number of job vacancies in the labor market for graduates in these specialties, — Vinnytskyi stressed.

He also included journalism in this list, as well as all specializations related to business administration. According to him, such fields are often chosen due to “fashion” or the desire to obtain a prestigious profession, but the labor market is already saturated with corresponding specialists.

Regulating the Education Market and Improving Choice Quality

To influence the situation in Ukraine, the so-called “indicative cost price” has been introduced. This means that the cost of education in similar popular but low-prospect specialties has significantly increased. It is expected that this approach will encourage applicants to take a more responsible attitude towards their choices and to focus on the real needs of the labor market, rather than just stereotypes or the temporary appeal of a profession.
