Britain to Begin Mass Production of Octopus Drones to Protect Ukraine from ‘Shaheds’
The United Kingdom and Ukraine have signed a licensing agreement that paves the way for the production of Ukrainian Octopus interceptor drones at British facilities. These drones have already proven their effectiveness in combating Russian kamikaze drones of the ‘Shahed’ type, and soon the Octopus manufactured in the UK will be delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is estimated that several thousand of these devices can be produced each month.

Ukrainian-British Cooperation in Drone Technology
The Octopus drone was developed by Ukrainian specialists in partnership with British engineers. The main idea behind this technology is to provide Ukrainian military personnel with an affordable and technically simple tool to combat ‘Shaheds’, significantly reducing the burden on expensive air defense systems. This interceptor was launched into mass production in November 2025.
“The concept of Octopus is to give the Armed Forces of Ukraine a cheap and technologically simple tool against ‘Shaheds’ to alleviate the pressure on costly air defense systems.”
Partnership for the Development of Drone Technologies
In addition, Ukrainian defense companies Osiris AI and DefDrones have signed an agreement for strategic partnership in the development of hardware and software solutions for modern drone platforms. Osiris AI specializes in software development for unmanned systems, while DefDrones is responsible for the design and supply of high-performance microelectronic components. This collaboration aims to further advance cutting-edge technologies in the field of unmanned solutions for the defense sector.
