Agrocompany ‘Zakhidnyi Buh’, which owns assets in western Ukraine, has begun construction of the country’s first specialized mill for processing durum wheat. The main goal of this large-scale project is to achieve a quality level that rivals leading Italian manufacturers and to become the ‘second Barilla’ in the Ukrainian market.

Launch of the enterprise and investments

The company plans to launch the pasta factory in September this year, with the mill opening already in October. Total investments in the construction amount to 1 billion hryvnias. Initially, it was anticipated that the mill would process both soft and hard wheat. However, last year the concept changed: the company acquired specialized equipment focused exclusively on grinding durum. This will significantly increase the production volumes of high-quality flour used for making pasta. At the first stage, the new complex will be able to process 80 tons of hard wheat per day.

Contract farming and export potential

To ensure a stable supply of raw materials, the agrocompany is implementing a contract farming program for hard wheat in partnership with Ukrainian farmers. The majority of the produced flour is intended for export to the European market, where the demand for durum products remains high. At the same time, a certain volume will remain for the domestic market — for the production of premium pasta.

“the second Barilla” and produce products that match the quality of Italian manufacturers.
