Outbreak of Leukosis Detected in Cattle in Chernihiv Region

A significant outbreak of leukosis among cattle has been recorded at the agricultural society “Polissia,” located in the village of Bryhyntsi in the Chernihiv district. During an examination of a herd of 438 cows, 81 animals were identified as infected.

Measures to Contain the Disease

All infected individuals were promptly culled and sent for slaughter to prevent further spread of the dangerous disease. Representatives of the Agency for Animal Identification and Registration reported that such actions are necessary to localize the leukosis outbreak.

The Chernihiv District State Administration informs that strict quarantine restrictions have been in place at the farm since May 2. Specialists from the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection are continuously monitoring the situation and tracking the dynamics of the disease’s progression. The agency notes that the lifting of restrictions is only possible after receiving negative results from repeated leukosis tests on the entire herd.

Leukosis Situation in the Region

As reported, last year, three unfavorable points for cattle leukosis were registered in the territory of Kherson region under Ukrainian control.

Such cases highlight the importance of epidemiological monitoring of animal health to avoid further losses in livestock farms.
