French retailer Intermarché has announced that it is increasing its economic support for the dairy sector by upgrading its purchase price to €340 per 1,000 litres for its partner producers.

The supermarket chain has invited its dairy suppliers to apply this increase in milk prices to help highlight the ‘serious crisis’ they are currently experiencing.

Intermarché has also invited all operators in the milk sector, both national brands and private label, to commit themselves to a transparency agreement.

Thierry Cotillard, president of Intermarché and Netto, said that "all actors have a role to play in supporting French dairy production, and we want everyone to take responsibility".

“Intermarché and Netto take their revaluation of the purchase price to €340 per 1,000 litres to the milk producers who work with the Agromousquetaires group. For all the players in the sector, we want more transparency because it is necessary to guarantee a fair remuneration for milk producers.”

Intermarché already has its own dairy factory, Laiterie Saint Pére, which supplies nearly 70% of the milk sold under the 'Pâturages' brand, and the company says that it is committed to supporting French dairy production.
